Overview
McWilliam's Hanwood Estate 30 Year Old Very Rare Tawny represents six generations of Australian fortified winemaking expertise. Produced from elite parcels and released only after reaching optimum maturity, this exceptionally limited fortified wine offers remarkable concentration, complexity and elegance.
Maturation and Blend
The wine spends its first 18 years in small oak casks before being transferred to large old casks to retain freshness and vibrancy. It is blended from parcels aged between 17 and 39 years, with an average age of 30 years at bottling. Shiraz, Touriga Nacional and Grenache form the core of the blend, supported by smaller amounts of other red varieties. Only approximately 200 litres are bottled annually.
Producer Tasting Notes
Extremely intense and complex with the classic oak aged characters very apparent. The nose wine is extremely intense and has raisined fruit, toffee, malt and hints of maple syrup. The palate explodes with flavours of Christmas cake, malt, toffee with hints of dark chocolate. The palate is deliciously luscious … wonderfully elegant and refined.
Serving
Blended and matured for immediate enjoyment, this rare Tawny may be savoured on its own or served with premium cheeses.

The freshness of this wine is something to behold. Red raspberry with a black cherry core, you can feel the alertness of the shiraz fruit … Tannins cradle the wine with a warmth that speaks of clean spirit, but also soulful tenderness and appreciation. Magnificent.

This has enriched me to the very corners of being. The extension of rancio takes new forms to the prune, red berries and citrus oils … It’s muscular yet elongated with balletic-like lines, with plenty of savoury notes, and is underpinned by spice and earth.
