Kusuda Wines, located in Martinborough, New Zealand, is a boutique producer renowned for its premium Pinot Noir, Riesling, Syrah, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Founded in 2001 by Hiroyuki Kusuda, a former Japanese lawyer who studied viticulture at Geisenheim University in Germany, the winery reflects his meticulous, hands-on approach. The flagship Pinot Noir, like all Kusuda wines, is hand-harvested, meticulously sorted, and undergoes long maceration and stainless-steel fermentation, followed by 15 months of barrel aging. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, the wines showcase purity, elegance, and Martinborough’s unique terroir. This rigorous attention to detail and quality has earned Kusuda Wines a cult following, particularly in Japan, which serves as the primary export market. Despite its small production, Kusuda’s wines are celebrated globally for their exceptional finesse, reflecting both the dedication of their maker and the distinct character of the region.
