âLike all these wines, this is a love it or hate it style, although for the life of me, I have never understood why everyone doesnât love them. Coonawarra is not the most typical region for this style, but they come from all over and this is a delicious example. An opaque magenta, this is obviously ripe and exuberant right from the start. Choc/cherry is to the fore, with aniseed, black fruits, leather, cassis, plums, blueberries and dark chocolate all present. Plush, yet with bright acidity, the sweetness that can overwhelm some examples is kept well in check here, and finishes with excellent length. This will offer pleasure for the next ten years, longer if needed.â
About This Wine
Majella Sparkling Shiraz continues the Australian sparkling red wine tradition with a vibrant dark red colour, bright ruby hue, and fine bead.
The wine displays fresh plum, raspberry, and blackberry aromas with a palate that is complex yet smooth, showing black fruit characters, spice, gentle tannins, and a generous finish.
The base wine is matured in 2nd and 3rd use French oak hogsheads for five months before secondary fermentation in bottle. The wine remains on lees for 14 months and is produced using méthode traditionnelle, with bottles hand-riddled and disgorged. A small amount of vintage port is added for additional complexity.
ââŠit is a glorious awakening to a new way to enjoy sparkling.â â David Zyw, 101 Champagnes and Other Sparkling Wines to Try Before You Die
