About This Whisky

Ardbeg Dark Reserve is a limited-edition Islay single malt Scotch whisky created exclusively for The Whisky Club in October 2026. Developed by Ardbeg's Dr Bill Lumsden, this exceptional release showcases the distillery's signature peat smoke alongside the extraordinary richness of rare Black Sherry casks sourced from Bodegas José y Miguel Martin in Jerez, Spain.

The whisky combines spirit matured in American oak and Black Sherry casks before undergoing a secondary maturation in Black Sherry casks. This distinctive approach creates a rich, intensely sherried expression, bringing together dark fruits, roasted coffee, treacle toffee and warming spices with Ardbeg's unmistakable coastal smokiness.

Bottled at 49.4% ABV, Dark Reserve is a one-off exclusive batch inspired by the distillery's celebrated Dark Cove release, offering a distinctive interpretation of Ardbeg's powerful, peated character.

Tasting Notes

Colour: Dark gold.

Nose: Freshly ground coffee, rich berry compote and salted treacle toffee, accompanied by coastal woodsmoke and delicate spiced biscuits.

Palate: Rich fruit cake, toasted hazelnuts and brown sugar, balanced by sea salt and a bright touch of orange zest.

Finish: Chocolate ice cream notes round out the palate.

Established in 1815 on the southern coast of Scotland's Isle of Islay, Ardbeg is internationally celebrated for producing some of the world's most intensely peated single malt Scotch whiskies. Its distinctive house style combines powerful peat smoke with remarkable sweetness, richness and complexity.

Following its revival under Glenmorangie in 1997, Ardbeg has earned a devoted following among whisky enthusiasts and collectors. Now part of the LVMH group, the distillery continues to explore innovative cask maturation techniques while preserving its unmistakable Islay character.
