Overview

A historic Hunter Valley Shiraz from Mount Pleasant, bringing together fruit from the Old Paddock and Old Hill vineyard sites in Pokolbin. Both vineyards form part of the estate established by legendary Australian winemaker Maurice O'Shea, with Old Hill tracing its Shiraz plantings to 1880 and Old Paddock planted by O'Shea in 1921.

Vineyard

The Old Hill Vineyard is a three-hectare historic Shiraz vineyard planted in 1880 on rich volcanic soils. After establishing Mount Pleasant in 1921, Maurice O'Shea planted the adjoining Old Paddock vineyard to Shiraz. These old vineyard holdings are central to Mount Pleasant's long association with Hunter Valley Shiraz.

Mount Pleasant was established in Pokolbin in 1921 by Maurice O'Shea, one of the defining figures of Australian wine. Based on the slopes of the Brokenback Range in the Hunter Valley, the estate is particularly renowned for Shiraz and Semillon and holds a significant collection of historic vineyards. Its vineyard legacy includes Old Hill, Old Paddock, Estate, Lovedale and Rosehill, with some plantings dating to the nineteenth century.
