Overview
Mount Mary Marli Russell RP2 is a Grenache-dominant, Southern Rhône-inspired red from the Yarra Valley. It offers a fruit-forward, earlier-drinking expression with greater depth and palate weight than Mount Mary Pinot Noir while remaining lighter than Quintet.
Vineyard and Blend
Mount Mary began establishing additional vineyard areas in 2008 to explore varieties traditionally grown in France’s Rhône Valley. The RP2 range draws upon Grenache, Shiraz, Mourvedre and Cinsault, with Grenache intended to define the wine’s character.
Winemaking
The wine is matured in larger-format oak barrels to preserve freshness, fruit vibrancy and energy. For the 2024 vintage, the Grenache was fully destemmed and retained as whole berries, while the Shiraz was fermented with 30% whole bunches.
Producer Tasting Notes
“It is a slightly more fruit forward, earlier drinking style than other Mount Mary red wines, with the depth and palate weight sitting somewhere between the Quintet and Pinot noir.”
“A wine of elegance, with beautiful mid palate fruit sweetness combined with savoury attributes and fine grain tannin.”

“A blend of 70/30% grenache/shiraz. The grenache is fully destemmed with whole berries, while the shiraz is fermented with 30% whole bunches. A light, bright crimson red. Very pretty aromas of freshly picked raspberry, rose petal and spice. Brightly fruited and energetic, with gently grippy tannins and bright acidity making this a delicious wine to drink now and over the next two to three years.”
The Marli Russell Story
The label honours Mount Mary co-founder Marli Middleton, née Russell, whose adventurous outlook and enthusiasm inspired the family to continue exploring new ideas. The range reflects that spirit through varieties selected for their potential in Mount Mary’s changing vineyard environment.
