The 2024 Giant Steps Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir is a finely structured, site-driven Yarra Valley Pinot Noir that reflects both elevation and precision. Produced by Giant Steps, this single-vineyard release highlights the power, perfume, and mineral tension characteristic of the Sexton Vineyard.
Planted in 1997 in the cooler northern corridor of the Yarra Valley, Sexton Vineyard sits at altitude on grey clay loam soils, naturally yielding small berries with concentrated flavour and firm tannin structure. The 2024 vintage delivered fruit of excellent balance and clarity, allowing for expressive aromatics and fine structural detail.
In the winery, grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation, with a measured inclusion of whole bunches to enhance aromatic lift and structural complexity. Gentle extraction preserved finesse, while maturation in French oak barrels, including a proportion of new oak, added depth and texture without overshadowing the fruit.
The wine reveals lifted aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, and raspberry, layered with notes of rose petal, spice, dried herbs, and subtle earthy undertones. The palate is medium-bodied and finely composed, with vibrant acidity, silky yet persistent tannins, and a long, mineral-driven finish that underscores the vineyard’s elevated site.
Approachable now with light decanting, the 2024 Sexton Vineyard Pinot Noir also possesses the structure to age gracefully over the next 8–15+ years, developing further savoury nuance and tertiary complexity.
A poised and age-worthy Yarra Valley Pinot Noir that balances intensity, elegance, and precise vineyard expression.
