2024 Giant Steps Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir 1.5L Magnum

The 2024 Giant Steps Applejack Vineyard Pinot Noir is a premium single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Gladysdale in the Upper Yarra Valley. Presented here in the impressive 1.5L Magnum format, it combines the precision and perfume of this celebrated cool-climate vineyard with the slower maturation and collectability associated with large-format bottles.

Applejack Vineyard was planted in 1997 by respected viticulturist Ray Guerin and sits at an elevation of approximately 220–320 metres. Its east-facing slopes, grey-brown clay loam and underlying volcanic soils, together with the cool Upper Yarra climate, create a long growing season particularly well suited to Pinot Noir.

The 2024 vintage delivered beautifully balanced fruit with excellent flavour concentration and natural acidity. The fruit was hand-picked and carefully sorted before fermentation, with 40% whole bunches incorporated to build aromatic complexity and structure. The wine was matured for 10 months in French oak, including 15% new oak, allowing subtle savoury and spicy complexity to develop without overwhelming the purity of the fruit.

Highly perfumed and finely detailed, the 2024 Applejack Pinot Noir shows red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry alongside rose petal, dried herbs and fragrant spice. Subtle forest-floor and mineral characters add further complexity. The palate is elegant yet concentrated, with bright red fruit framed by fine, silky tannins and vibrant acidity. There is excellent tension and persistence through the palate, leading to a long, precise and savoury finish.

Applejack has become one of the benchmark single-vineyard Pinot Noir sites in the Giant Steps portfolio, combining Upper Yarra freshness with impressive depth and structure. The 1.5L Magnum format makes this release particularly attractive for collectors, special occasions and long-term cellaring.
