The 2024 Felton Road Block 2 Chardonnay Magnum is a precise and beautifully textured Central Otago Chardonnay from one of New Zealand’s most respected biodynamic producers. Crafted by Felton Road, Block 2 consistently delivers a more mineral and tightly structured expression of Chardonnay, combining purity, finesse, and exceptional ageing potential.
Situated in Bannockburn, Central Otago, the Block 2 vineyard benefits from a cool continental climate, significant diurnal temperature shifts, and schist-based soils that contribute tension, aromatic detail, and mineral drive. The 2024 vintage provided excellent growing conditions, allowing slow ripening and remarkable flavour definition while retaining vibrant natural acidity.
Fruit was hand-harvested and whole-bunch pressed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, a modest proportion of which were new. Extended lees maturation and careful élevage added texture and complexity while preserving the vineyard’s crystalline precision and site transparency.
The wine opens with layered aromas of white peach, nectarine, citrus blossom, and preserved lemon, interwoven with subtle flint, hazelnut, and delicate oak spice. The palate is concentrated yet restrained, balancing creamy texture with energetic acidity and a long, saline mineral finish. The magnum format further enhances ageing potential, allowing the wine to evolve slowly and gracefully over time.
Approachable in its youth with aeration, the 2024 Block 2 Chardonnay Magnum will reward patient cellaring over 10–20+ years, developing further savoury complexity and tertiary nuance.
