About This Wine
Devotus Reserve Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2024 was grown from the estateās oldest vines, including 38-year-old Pommard clone vines and 33-year-old Dijon clone vines.
The vines are non-irrigated and farmed using organic and sustainable methods. Undervine weeds are controlled through mechanical cultivation, while Annual Crimson Clover, Malbec Red Clover, Huia White Clover and Black Oats are grown within the vineyard and ploughed back into the soil for organic vine nutrition.
Martinborough experienced an ideal growing season over 2023/2024, with dry conditions from December 2023 through to hand-harvesting in March 2024. The vineyard produced low yields of 1.2 ton/acre for the 2024 vintage.
Hand harvesting was completed on 23 March 2024 at an average sugar level of 23.2°Brix across clones.
After careful sorting, 50% whole bunch fermentation was used. Cold maceration was held at 10°C for 2 days, followed by fermentation with wild yeasts from the vineyard. Total skin contact time was 12 days.
The wine was matured in French oak barrels, including 35% new oak, for 10 months. No fining or filtering was used.
Producer Notes
Violet and cranberry aromas, smokey, elegant yet persistent. On the palate soft yet fine balanced tannin. Dark fruits with acidity and freshness. Long and generous finish.
Overall style is one of low intervention, a pure expression of the 2024 vintage, of the Martinborough Terrace, and particularly of the vineyard.
Will benefit from being left alone until 2028, yet if opened before, then consider decanting up to 24 hours prior to serving. Can be confidently cellared for at least 20 years from 2028 to 2048.
