2024 Craggy Range Sophia Merlot Blend 750ml

The 2024 Craggy Range Sophia is a premium Merlot-dominant Bordeaux-style blend from the Gimblett Gravels in Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand, and one of Craggy Range’s flagship wines.

Sophia is produced from carefully selected parcels grown on the distinctive stony soils of the Gimblett Gravels. These warm, free-draining soils provide excellent conditions for Bordeaux varieties, producing wines with concentration, fine structure and impressive ageing potential.

The 2024 vintage displays aromas of ripe blackberry, black plum, cassis and dark cherry, complemented by violet, cedar, dried herbs and subtle spice.

The palate is rich and concentrated yet beautifully refined, with layers of dark fruit supported by polished tannins and fresh acidity. Savoury notes, fine oak and subtle spice provide additional complexity, leading to a long, elegant and persistent finish.

Sophia combines the generosity of Merlot with the aromatic complexity and structure of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. While already showing excellent balance, the 2024 has the structure to develop considerably with careful cellaring.
