2024 Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanee 750ml

Overview

A remarkably small-production Vosne-Romanée from Benjamin Leroux, shaped by the extremely low yields of the 2024 vintage. The wine combines several village parcels with a small amount of fruit from the prestigious Premier Cru Malconsorts, bringing additional depth to its floral, red-fruited and finely structured character.

Vineyard

Leroux controls around two hectares in Vosne-Romanée, working with parcels that include Maizières Basses, Les Violettes, Genaivrières, Les Jacquines, Au Village and Au-Dessus de la Rivière. The vineyards include mature selections of Pinot Fin, with the Maizières Basses parcel containing organically farmed vines around 60 years old.

Yields were exceptionally low in 2024 at approximately 3hl/ha. Only five barrels of the village wine were produced, compared with around 25 in a more typical vintage. The final blend includes 77 litres of Malconsorts Premier Cru fruit.

Winemaking

The Malconsorts component was aged in a WineGlobe with the stems before being incorporated into the village cuvée. Leroux’s broader cellar philosophy is parcel-specific, with each lot treated according to the vintage and terroir rather than following a fixed recipe.

Producer

Born in Beaune, Benjamin Leroux entered the Lycée Viticole at the age of 14 before completing his national oenology degree and gaining experience in New Zealand, Oregon and Bordeaux. At 24, he became manager of Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard, where over 15 vintages he introduced organic and later biodynamic viticulture.

Leroux established his own project in 2007. Working across the Côte d’Or, he focuses on careful farming and precise expression of individual terroirs. In the cellar, each parcel and vintage receives a tailored approach, with traditional barrels, larger wooden vessels, amphorae and WineGlobes used where appropriate without masking the identity of the site.
