96/100 — Angus Hughson, Wine Pilot · 2024 Vintage · Drinking Window: 2032-2046
“This 2024 Premium Chardonnay is a wine that whispers rather than shouts, choosing subtlety over overt displays of power. Tightly bound with layers of flint, blanched almond, citrus and oatmeal offer a compelling opening. Strong Burgundian theme here, with the chalky, citrus flavours compact, well defined and focussed with tension and vigour keeping weighty flavours in check. Fantastic energy and shape here which guarantees a long and fruitful future. 2032-2046.”
94/100 — Huon Hooke · 2024 Vintage · 24 MAY 2026 · Drinking Window: 2026-2034
“Medium-full yellow colour; smoky, bready yeast lees and buttery pie crust aromas, the palate rich and round, soft and ample, with intense lemony core surrounded by pastry and buttery shortbread flavours, finishing with a firming grip of tannin and some alcohol warmth. Long finish. A generous, worked wine, in classic Burgundy style.”
About This Wine
Bass Phillip Premium Chardonnay is sourced from selected estate parcels in South Gippsland, with close-planted, low-yielding vines and a focus on complexity and structural power.
The 2024 vintage was a cold, slow-burning year, with grapes hanging on the vine until late March. The fruit went through gentle wild fermentation and matured in high-quality French oak barrels.
Producer Notes
Highly fragrant, white linen, a twist of lemon with peachy, nectarine base notes and a hint of nougat. The palate is incredibly focused by a core of acid that provides drive and length with a supple lithe mid palate and delicious flavours that mirror the nose run the length of the palate. Certainly, made for the long haul...but enjoyable now
