2023 The Black Chook Shiraz 750ml

Overview

The Black Chook Shiraz is a generous and approachable McLaren Vale red, combining ripe berry fruit with floral lift, soft tannins and subtle oak complexity. The 2023 continues the brand’s focus on expressive Shiraz made for immediate enjoyment while retaining clear regional character.

Winemaking

The Shiraz was co-fermented with a small amount of Viognier, enhancing perfume, colour stability and tannin suppleness. Individual vineyard parcels were vinified and matured separately, with oak selected to best complement the character of each block. The final blend was assembled after 12 months of oak maturation.

Producer Tasting Notes

Fresh red cherry and mixed berries are complemented by delicate florals and a touch of vanilla.

The palate is bright and generous, packed with juicy fruit and soft tannins that carry through to a smooth finish. Approachable, flavourful and made to be enjoyed.

The Black Chook was established in 2003 and is produced by the team behind Penny’s Hill Estate in McLaren Vale. Penny’s Hill was established in 1988 and is based at the historic Ingleburne Homestead, built in 1855. The winemaking philosophy centres on expressive regional styles, careful vineyard selection and consistent varietal character.
