Overview
The 2023 Sons of Eden Remus Eden Valley Old Vine Shiraz is the refined, focused and elegant counterpart to Romulus. Sourced from treasured old vine vineyards across Central Eden Valley, Moculta and Flaxmans Valley, Remus captures the lifted aromatics, structure and cool-climate detail that define great Eden Valley Shiraz.
Vintage & Winemaking
The 2023 vintage was outstanding for low-yielding old vine Shiraz vineyards, producing concentrated and vibrant wines capable of long ageing. To qualify for the Remus blend, vineyards must be over 50 years old, with this release sourced from 80+ year old vines in Central Eden Valley, 60+ year old vines in Moculta and 80+ year old vines in Flaxmans Valley.
The fruit was hand harvested, destemmed and crushed into small 1.5 tonne open-top fermenters. Selected fermenters included up to 15% whole-bunch clusters, followed by a pre-fermentation cold soak and daily hand plunging for gentle extraction. After an extended period on skins, the ferments were pressed to 60% new French oak hogsheads and matured for 18 months without racking.
