About This Wine
The Chookshed Zinfandel began when cuttings from short rows planted on a neighbouring vineyard in the early seventies were grafted onto an old dry grown block of Trebbiano next to the chook shed.
The wine shows year in year out consistency and is made from some of the oldest Zinfandel vines around.
Producer Notes
I vividly remember my cousin introducing me to Zinfandel and thinking, âwow, what a grape variety!â About a year later I stumbled across a couple of short rows which had been planted on one of our neighbourâs vineyards in the early seventies.
After offering to prune the vines in exchange for a few cuttings, Mum, Dad and I grafted an old dry grown block of Trebbiano next to the chook shed, over to Zinfandel, putting them amongst the oldest Zinfandel vines around.
Intriguing nose with liquorice, raisins, cedar and spice. Full throttle flavours showing orange peel, chocolate, dark fruits, liquorice & spice. Rich and unctuous and not for the faint of heart, if you like a big red, this always delivers!
About the Producer
In 1979, Dennis Canute and sixth generation Barossa grape grower Christine purchased a rundown vineyard in Vine Vale and rejuvenated the old Shiraz and Grenache grandfather vines.
Next-generation grower/winemaker Christian Canute is proud of this unique vineyard and makes sure its personality speaks clearly through each wine that bears the Rusden label.
