Overview

The 2023 Racines Sta. Rita Hills Pinot Noir brings together vineyards along the Santa Rosa Road corridor. Floral detail, precise tannins and mineral structure reflect a cuvée intended to express the appellation’s varied geology and cooling Pacific influence.

The blend draws on La Rinconada, Rancho la Viña, Wenzlau Family Vineyard, Sanford & Benedict and de Montille Estate. Their soils range from sandy and clay loams to chert, shale and limestone, giving the team a range of vineyard expressions to work with.

Vintage & Winemaking

Fermentation uses native yeasts with approximately 40% whole clusters. The fruit is worked with a combination of treading and punching down over about three weeks, before transfer to 228-litre barriques.

Maturation lasts 17 months in French oak, with 15% new barrels. The moderate new-oak proportion forms part of a process focused on maintaining the vineyard detail within the finished regional blend.
