Awards, Ratings & Reviews

94/100 — Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion · 2023 Vintage
“Deep crimson with aromas of blackberry, satsuma plum and black cherry fruits with hints of cedar, baking spices, licorice, dark chocolate, blackforest cake, earth and wood spice. Light notes of black pepper come through on the palate, which is concentrated and pure with a graphite sheen and a dark, earthy core. Long, fine tannins come into play as it fades away. Delicious now, but there's plenty of cellaring upside here.”

93/100 — Winepilot · 2023 Vintage · Tasted: Jul 2025
“A cooler climate Coonawarra Shiraz, maturation was for a year in French oak hogsheads, 26% new and 39% one-year-old. An opaque purple hue, there are vestiges of oak still in evidence, but it is early days and full integration should take place within a year or two. There are notes of Kirsch, aniseed, mint, herbs, cloves, chocolate, bay leaves, a touch of delicatessen meats, woodsmoke, plums and blackberries. Ripe flavours abound throughout this wine, with juicy acidity, balance, focus and medium length. A fine Bin 128 which will drink well for the next ten to fifteen years.”

About This Wine

Since its inaugural vintage in 1962, Bin 128 has showcased the perfumed and elegant style of cool-climate shiraz from Coonawarra. Sourced exclusively from the region's unique terra rossa soils, the wine offers an interesting counterpoint to the richer, warmer-climate Bin 28 shiraz. To enhance its regional character, the wine is matured in French oak hogsheads, a practice that was refined in the 1980s. This maturation process further highlights the transparency and seductive nature of Coonawarra's fruit.

Food Pairing

Pan-seared duck breast with a cherry reduction.
