Overview
Henschke Marble Angel is a single-variety Cabernet Sauvignon grown at Light Pass in the Barossa Valley. Planted in the early to mid-1970s, the vineyardās mature vines and ancient red clay and limestone soils produce a finely structured wine with excellent depth, purity and longevity.
Vineyard and Heritage
Marble Angel honours Julius Henschke, Stephen Henschkeās great-uncle and a renowned craftsman, artist and sculptor. Julius worked with pristine white marble quarried near the Light Pass Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard, creating celebrated angel sculptures and monuments. The wineās name connects his artistic legacy with the historic vineyard planted nearby.
Vintage
Above-average winter and spring rainfall replenished the soil before a cool, dry summer delayed flowering and reduced fruit set. Light autumn rain extended the ripening period, supporting flavour development and acid retention. The resulting wines show fruit purity, mature tannins, sound structure and excellent length.
Winemaking
The wine matured for 17 months in French oak hogsheads, comprising 13% new and 87% seasoned oak, before blending and bottling.
Producer Tasting Notes
Reviewed February 2026
āDeep ruby with crimson hues. Alluring aromas of blackcurrant, dark cherry, violet and black pepper with subtle notes of cedar, sandalwood and tomato leaf. A finely structured palate reveals layers of dark red fruits framed by cassis, roasted hazelnut, Dutch cocoa, dried thyme and bay leaf, carrying through to an exceptionally long, fine tannin finish.ā

āA wine to fill the senses. The aromas are elevated and herbal infused with plum, cherries, berries, cocoa, earth and graphite notes, all brightly spiced. Boasts fine tannins, good structure and it must be said that oak (French hogsheads, 10% new) is really smartly used here, an overall blending tool that aids the whole integrated feel of the wine. Lifted fruit and aromatics are definitely on show and so attractive. A light earthy savouriness inhabits the finish, offering yet another complexing element to the whole. Will age beautifully.ā
