The 2023 Henschke Keyneton Euphonium is a beautifully composed Barossa and Eden Valley red blend that captures the elegance, complexity, and heritage of Henschke. Named after the historic Barossa village of Keyneton, once a cultural and musical centre for early settlers and home to the Henschke family brass band, Euphonium has become one of Australia’s benchmark Rhône-Bordeaux inspired blends.
The 2023 release is led by Shiraz, blended with Cabernet Sauvignon and a small proportion of Cabernet Franc sourced from mature vineyards across the Barossa and Eden Valleys. Fruit from low-yielding vines, some over 50 years old, provides concentration and structural depth while preserving regional freshness and aromatic lift.
Matured for 17 months in predominantly seasoned French oak hogsheads, the wine balances richness with precision and restraint.
The wine opens with layered aromas of blackberry, plum, cassis, and mulberry, interwoven with notes of bay leaf, sage, dried herbs, black pepper, cedar, and subtle spice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied and finely structured, showing vibrant dark fruit, bright acidity, and polished fine-grained tannins that carry through an exceptionally long, savoury finish. The blend seamlessly combines Shiraz generosity with Cabernet definition and freshness.
Approachable with decanting in its youth, the 2023 Keyneton Euphonium also possesses excellent ageing potential and will continue to evolve gracefully over the next 15–25+ years.
A refined and age-worthy Australian red blend that reflects the heritage, craftsmanship, and regional identity of Henschke.
