Overview

A high-altitude Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir from one of the region’s older vineyard sites. The 2023 Eldridge Estate Pinot Noir combines fragrant red and dark fruit with fine tannins and vibrant acidity, earning 96 points from Halliday Wine Companion and 95 points from The Wine Front. Only 200 dozen were produced.

Vineyard

The fruit comes from Eldridge Estate on the Mornington Peninsula, Victoria. The vineyard was established at Red Hill in 1985 and is one of the older sites in the region.

Winemaking

Various parcels underwent either destemmed or whole-bunch fermentation using wild yeast. The wine was matured with 10% new oak and bottled in January 2024.

“Dark cherries, fragrant forest-floor aromas, pomegranate and blood orange with woodsy spices. Fuller bodied but not weighty, as there’s a refinement here, fine tannins, too, with raspberry acidity making it feel vibrant and, yes, still very youthful. It’ll garner more complexity in time, but it’s moreish and hard to resist now.”

Eldridge Estate is a Mornington Peninsula producer based at Red Hill. The vineyard was established by David and Wendy Lloyd in 1985 and was acquired by Elli and Vicki Tutungi in 2021. Leading Victorian winemaker Steve Flamsteed is credited as winemaker for the estate.
