Overview

Buckshot Vineyard Primitivo is a small-production Heathcote red from a 1.4-acre vineyard on the eastern slope of the Mt Camel range. The 2023 vintage combines ripe cherry and plum fruit with spice, savoury character and a plush, silky texture, underpinned by the mineral character of Heathcote’s ancient Cambrian soils.

Vineyard

The Primitivo vineyard was planted in 2001 and covers just 1.4 acres on a cooler east-facing slope of the Mt Camel range at approximately 200 metres elevation. The site is formed from around 500-million-year-old Cambrian geology, with soils containing jasper, greenstone, granite and distinctive ā€œbuckshotā€ ironstone pebbles.

Viticulture

Heathcote’s continental climate brings warm days and cool nights, encouraging long, gradual ripening while retaining acidity and tannin balance. Viticulture at Buckshot Vineyard focuses on soil health and minimal intervention.

Producer Tasting Notes

Colour
Deep dark red with a bright red hue.

Aroma
Lifted aromas of dark cherries, sweet mint and spice.

Palate
The palate has a wonderful balance between savoury and sweet. A plush, juicy mouthfeel, flavours of cherries, plums and spice finishing soft, silky and long.

Producer

Established in 1999, Buckshot Vineyard is a small family producer based in the renowned Heathcote wine region, specialising in distinctive red wines shaped by the region’s ancient soils.
