97/100 — Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion · 2023 Vintage · Published: 27 April 2026
"Everything about this wine, I love: its elegance, its precision and definition. It feels light at first but flavours build, the cherries and pips, the sweet nutty spices, the dash of Campari and fleck of fresh herbs. It’s on the lighter side of medium bodied, with superfine, powdery tannins and matching acidity all heading to a lingering finish."
97/100 — Huon Hooke, The Real Review · 2023 Vintage · 11 February 2025 · Drinking Window: 2026-2038
"Deep-ish red with a good purple tint; black cherry and blackberry aromas, the flavour bold and medium-full in body, with mysterious depths and plenty of tannin making for a more structured pinot. Foresty underbrush characters come with time in the glass. A bigger, more robust and concentrated style for this maker and promises to have a long and rewarding career. It’s still emerging at this stage and shows great potential."
About This Wine
Block 5 is located directly in front of the winery, with the wine resting in barrel and bottle barely metres away from where it is grown. Bindi's vines grow in a mix of ancient stony Ordovician soils and younger volcanic soil.
Producer Notes
The 2023 Block 5 shows the integrity of the site and its ability to shine through cool seasons. It's a good friend to have located directly in front of the winery and then resting in barrel and bottle barely meters away from where it's grown. The 2023 is sweet and pure and very fragrant of roses and red berries. There is a reservation about the wine now with some brooding dark berry depth. The palate is fresh, creamy, rich and expansive. It is long and seamless and delicious. Seven plus years of improvement will see it at its best and history says it will live well beyond that.
