2022 Tyrrell's Vat 9 Shiraz 750ml

Overview

The 2022 Tyrrell’s Vat 9 Shiraz is an estate-grown Hunter Valley red, combining concentrated fruit with a medium-bodied frame. It draws together selected parcels from Ashmans, with the Weinkeller and Short Flat vineyards forming the greater part of the blend.

The estate’s red clay over limestone provides the setting for vines at least 50 years old. Within Short Flat, the Mathews and Contours blocks, planted in 1968, contribute to Vat 9’s vineyard identity.

Vintage & Winemaking

The fruit was handpicked and sorted in the fourth week of February. Individual blocks were fermented separately in open vats, then matured in predominantly newer 2,700-litre French oak casks. The blend was assembled in November 2022 and given a further five months of maturation before bottling.

About the Producer

Murray Tyrrell established the Winemaker’s Selection range in 1965, working with Len Evans to select the strongest wines of each vintage. The wines took their names from their maturation casks; today the range continues to express the estate’s vineyards and house style.
