Overview

Tommasi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG is one of the benchmark wines of the Tommasi family, combining elegance, structure, softness and complexity. Founded in 1902, Tommasi Viticoltori is one of Veneto's most important family producers and remains closely associated with classic Amarone from the heart of Valpolicella Classica.

The 2022 vintage is powerful yet refined, offering the richness and depth expected from traditional Amarone while retaining balance, freshness and long persistence.

Tasting Notes

The palate reveals a rich, enveloping structure with firm yet velvety tannins and balanced acidity. Ripe and dried fruit flavours of black cherry, plum and blackberry in spirit are layered with cocoa, sweet tobacco and spice, evolving toward balsamic nuances. The finish is long and persistent, with warmth, depth and complex savoury detail.

Vintage

The 2022 vintage in Valpolicella was marked by a warm, dry growing season with limited rainfall, resulting in lower yields and highly concentrated grapes. Harvest took place slightly earlier than average, with healthy fruit showing excellent ripeness and balance. Optimal drying conditions supported a clean, expressive aromatic profile.

Vineyard & Grapes

The fruit comes from the prestigious La Groletta and Conca d'Oro crus in the hillside zone of Valpolicella Classica. The blend is 50% Corvina, 30% Corvinone, 15% Rondinella and 5% Oseleta.

Winemaking

The grapes are hand harvested and carefully selected, then dried for approximately three months in a well-ventilated drying loft. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel for 25 days at 25-30°C. The wine is then aged for three years in 35hl and 65hl Slavonian oak casks.

Review

  • 93 Points - James Suckling, tasted February 2026

Food Pairing

Excellent with game, red meats and long-aged cheeses. It is also well suited to slow meals and long conversations.
