The 2022 Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir is a benchmark Tasmanian Pinot Noir, celebrated for its precision, restraint, and remarkable site expression. Produced by Tolpuddle Vineyard, this wine has earned international acclaim for translating the cool-climate elegance of the Coal River Valley into a Pinot Noir of purity, structure, and longevity.

Fruit is sourced exclusively from the Tolpuddle Vineyard, planted in 1988 on free-draining, low-fertility soils ideally suited to Pinot Noir. Tasmania’s cool, dry climate and long growing season allow for slow, even ripening, preserving natural acidity while building aromatic detail and fine tannin structure. The excellent 2022 vintage delivered fruit of outstanding balance, clarity, and intensity.

In the winery, grapes were hand-harvested and carefully sorted before fermentation using gentle, traditional techniques designed to prioritise vineyard expression. Extraction was restrained to maintain finesse and texture, and maturation took place in French oak barrels, including a modest proportion of new oak, to add complexity and structure without overshadowing the fruit.

The wine opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, cranberry, and rose petal, complemented by notes of spice, forest floor, dried herbs, and subtle savoury nuances. The palate is medium-bodied and finely detailed, showing vibrant red fruit, bright acidity, and silky, fine-grained tannins. A long, mineral-edged finish highlights the vineyard’s pedigree and the wine’s ageing potential.

While approachable now with light decanting, the 2022 Tolpuddle Vineyard Pinot Noir is built for the cellar and will reward careful cellaring over 10–15+ years, developing greater savoury depth and tertiary complexity.
