“A fruity, well-made and polished shiraz with cassis, roasted paprika and some sweet spices. Medium-bodied with creamy tannins and texture. Fruit-driven and mellow with a relaxed finish. Drink now.”
— James Suckling · 2022 Vintage · Tasted: Mar 2025
About This Wine
The Rusden Vineyard is nestled on the deep Vine Vale sand in the foothills below the eastern Barossa Ranges.
The old vines are traditionally cared for and hand tended to ensure their longevity and benefit for future generations.
A minimalist approach to winemaking results in an honest representation of the variety.
This is a New World wine made in an Old World style to produce a fruit driven wine with dimension, character and balance.
Producer Notes
Following on from the superb wines of the 2021 vintage is no easy feat, but this 2022 Black Guts looks every bit as good, dense nose with dark fruits, some graphite and spice.
Dark cherries, plum, hints of dark chocolate all framed beautifully by the oak. There’s a density to this wine yet a silky mouthfeel and lovely acidity that keeps you reaching for another sip!
About the Producer
In 1979, Dennis Canute and sixth generation Barossa grape grower Christine purchased a rundown vineyard in Vine Vale and rejuvenated the old Shiraz and Grenache grandfather vines.
Next-generation grower/winemaker Christian Canute is proud of this unique vineyard and makes sure its personality speaks clearly through each wine that bears the Rusden label.
