Appellation: Meursault Premier Cru (AOP)
Varietal: 100% Chardonnay
Region: CƓte de Beaune, Burgundy
Harvest: Manual
Terroir: Clay-limestone
Vineyard & Origin:
Meursault is the most renowned village for the production of great white wines in the CƓte d'Or. Located south of Pommard, its excellent Premiers Crus compensate for the absence of Grands Crus.
The plot La Pièce Sous le Bois (the room under the woods) sits atop the hill overlooking Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet, in the Hameau de Blagny. At 330 m elevation on the border with Puligny-Montrachet, this site forms a natural basin rich in white marl and chalk. The vines (40 ouvrées) were planted in 1959 and 2010 on extremely calcareous soil.
Vinification:
Immediately after harvest, the grapes are pressed as whole bunches in a pneumatic press. The juice undergoes 24 hours of static settling at 12 °C before being transferred directly into barrels for alcoholic and malolactic fermentations.
Ageing:
Aged 14 months in lightly toasted (āblondeā) French oak barrels, 30% new.
Winemaker Notes:
This Meursault 1er Cru offers perfect balance between freshness and smoothness. Expressive aromas of yellow and exotic fruits are joined by subtle spice and marzipan notes on the palate.
Food Pairing:
Ideal with poultry or festive fowl such as duck, guinea fowl, or turkey, as well as fish dishes and soft cheeses (Brie, Camembert, ComtƩ).
Perfect pairing suggestion: Pike mousseline with crayfish coulis.
Ageing Potential: 7ā10 years
Serving Temperature: 12ā14 °C
