Founded in 1986 by the Burch family, Howard Park Wines is a benchmark of Western Australian winemaking, celebrated for its meticulous single-vineyard approach. The Leston range highlights the individuality of the estate’s Wilyabrup vineyard — combining concentration, balance, and regional elegance that define Margaret River reds.
Vineyard
The Leston Vineyard lies in the northern reaches of Margaret River, where gravelly loam soils over clay and the maritime climate create ideal conditions for Shiraz. Warm days tempered by ocean breezes allow slow ripening, developing supple tannins, lifted aromatics, and precise natural acidity.
Winemaking
Hand-harvested fruit was destemmed and fermented in small open tanks, with gentle extraction to preserve fruit purity and structure. The wine matured for 15 months in French oak barriques (around 35% new) before blending and bottling. The result is a finely textured Shiraz of aromatic complexity and refined power.
Vintage
2022 delivered a near-perfect growing season in Margaret River — warm, dry, and consistent. The fruit achieved excellent ripeness and purity, producing reds of vibrant fruit expression and fine tannin structure.
Tasting Notes
Deep crimson in colour, the 2022 Leston Shiraz offers aromas of blackberry, mulberry, and dark plum intertwined with black pepper, violet, and subtle oak spice. The palate is plush yet poised — layers of dark fruit, mocha, and savoury spice framed by silky tannins and bright acidity. Elegant, balanced, and cellar-worthy.
