The 2022 Greenock Creek Seven Acre Shiraz is a powerful yet beautifully detailed expression from one of the Barossa Valley’s most character-rich vineyard sites. Planted in 1990 and situated on the western edge of the Barossa near Moppa, the Seven Acre vineyard consistently produces Shiraz of great depth, saturated colour and muscular structure. It is one of Greenock Creek’s most distinctive single-vineyard wines, sitting stylistically between the seductive plushness of Alices Block and the monumental density of Roennfeldt Road.
The 2022 vintage in the Barossa Valley was mild, even and classically late-ripening — ideal conditions for producing Shiraz with concentration and freshness. Cooler nights and a long ripening window allowed Seven Acre fruit to develop exceptional aromatic complexity while preserving balanced acidity and fine tannin structure.
The wine opens with intense aromatics of blackberry, blueberry compote, black cherry and dark plum. Layers of licorice, dark chocolate, espresso roast and warm spice intertwine with notes of graphite, violet and cracked black pepper. Subtle oak influence adds hints of vanilla, cedar and smoked spice, enhancing the wine’s richness without overpowering its fruit purity.
On the palate, the 2022 Seven Acre Shiraz is full-bodied, dense and richly textured. A wave of concentrated black fruit sweeps through the mid-palate, supported by firm yet polished tannins that give the wine impressive drive and structure. Minerally undertones and savoury accents of earth, anise and roasted herbs add complexity. The finish is long, powerful and remarkably persistent, showing both intensity and finesse — a hallmark of the Seven Acre vineyard in standout years.
This vintage captures Seven Acre at its finest: bold, layered and expressive, with the freshness and precision that define modern Greenock Creek winemaking.
