2021 Place of Changing Winds Harcourt Syrah 750ml

Overview

The inaugural Place of Changing Winds release from Harcourt North, this 2021 Syrah captures a distinctive corner of the Bendigo G.I. Pure sandy granite soils and a mild climate give the site the potential for exceptional perfume and finesse, while the 2021 season produced a deeper, more structured expression. Extended maturation in neutral wood and concrete preserves the wine's aromatic detail and layered character.

Vineyard

The fruit comes from Harcourt North in the Bendigo G.I., a site distinguished by pure, sandy granite soils and a mild climate. These conditions set it apart from much of the broader Bendigo region and favour Syrah with perfume and finesse.

Winemaking

The wine underwent almost two years of maturation, spending one year in neutral wood ranging from barriques to 1,000-litre vessels, followed by a further year in an unlined concrete tank. It was bottled in late February 2023.

“The result is a wonderfully perfumed, yet layered Syrah with blackcurrant fruit, anise, bay leaf and thyme notes and a super-long, lingering finish. It reminds us of a top Morgon.”
