James Suckling – 2021 Vintage
“Triolet is a gently mid-weighted wine of refined detail and exquisite restraint, so much so that those who seek obvious fruit fail to understand it. It is a wine that ages with prowess, too. Indeed, the finest aged white I have experienced across the New World was older Triolet. Lanolin, lemon drop, quince and nettle push long across a meld of effusive energy and extract. The oak, subtly compressing the fray into a bone of tension. Excellent finish. Drinking this is an emotional experience, pushing the exhilaration meter up a notch. Best after 2027.”

About This Wine
The vineyard is planted to 75% Sauvignon Blanc, 20% Semillon and 5% Muscadelle. Each variety is picked at optimum ripeness and fermented separately to preserve individual varietal character. Sauvignon Blanc is picked after strong herbaceous flavours diminish, Semillon when acidity softens, and Muscadelle as its flavour intensity peaks.
In the winery, older barrels are used for this wine, with the entire production barrel fermented. Hard pressing is employed to enhance texture, and lees stirring is used to build additional body and complexity. The wine is typically barrel aged for 11 months, during which overt fruity elements settle and complex aromas develop.
Producer tasting notes for the 2021 vintage describe a wine of finesse and delicacy, showing citrus, nashi pear, guava and a hint of passionfruit. The palate is light and fresh with impressive persistence, dialled-back phenolics, seamless flow and notable complexity and subtlety.
