1.5L Magnum Bottle
Overview
A rich and expressive Barossa Valley Shiraz from Greenock Creek, produced from the highly regarded 2021 vintage. Deep red and purple in colour, the wine combines generous dark and red fruit with warm spice, chocolate and savoury complexity, framed by ripe, silky tannins and a long finish.
Vintage
The 2021 season followed another period of below-average winter and spring rainfall, although well-timed rain around budburst and flowering supported vine development. Mild conditions through fruit set contributed to healthy crops and elongated bunches, while strong canopy growth was managed to maintain natural airflow. Greenock Creek describes the resulting wines as fruit-rich and varietally expressive, with vibrant colour, ripe silky tannins and excellent fruit weight.
Winemaking
The fruit was hand picked and fermented separately in open slate fermenters for 6β7 days. A portion was fermented in new French oak hogsheads (10%), with the balance matured in a selection of seasoned French and American oak hogsheads for 18 months.
Producer Tasting Notes
βIn the glass you'll see plenty of cherry and bright red hues. Wild forest berries intermingle with star anise and ground coffee aromas, with hints of savoury kitchen spices and lifted notes of lavender blossom. Ripe plums and cranberries drive though the pallet and linger long onto the finish. Sweet vanilla merges with milk chocolate nuances in the mid palate, balanced by slate and mineral edges that provide vibrancy and a cleansing acid line. All framed by silken, velvety tannin that provides the rounded structure of this extremely flavoursome wine.β β Greenock Creek
Critic Reviews
93 Points β Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
βAn entry level wine from this revered western Barossa estate from the strong 2021 vintage. Shows the estates trademark fruit plushness and voluptuous palate-shape with a little less horsepower than the big guns in their stable. Pure berry and plum fruits, spice, dark chocolate, powdery tannins and a whole lot of drinking enjoyment here.β
