The 2021 Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge is a beautifully balanced expression of one of the Rhône Valley's most historic appellations. Owned by the renowned Cazes family of Château Lynch-Bages since 2006, Domaine des Sénéchaux has become one of the benchmark estates of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, producing wines that combine traditional southern Rhône richness with exceptional elegance and precision.
Located in the heart of the appellation, the estate's vineyards span the famous galets roulés, sandy soils and clay-limestone parcels that contribute both power and finesse to the wines. The 2021 growing season was notably cooler than recent vintages, resulting in a classic, fresh and beautifully structured expression with outstanding aromatic purity.
The blend comprises 48% Grenache, 30% Syrah and 22% Mourvèdre, with each variety vinified separately before maturation in a combination of traditional large oak foudres and French oak barrels. This gentle élevage preserves fruit purity while adding texture and complexity.
The bouquet reveals vibrant aromas of raspberry, kirsch, wild strawberry and blackberry, layered with Provençal herbs, cracked black pepper, lavender, liquorice and subtle earthy spice. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, silky and refined, combining juicy red and black fruits with fine-grained tannins, bright natural acidity and a savoury mineral finish. Elegant rather than powerful, it captures the classic style of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with impressive balance and ageing potential.
Already highly enjoyable with decanting, the 2021 Domaine des Sénéchaux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge will continue to develop beautifully over the next 10–15 years.
