Overview

Domaine Ballot-Millot Santenots is a Volnay Premier Cru Pinot Noir from one of Burgundy’s distinctive cross-commune vineyard sites. Although Santenots lies within Meursault, its red wines are traditionally labelled as Volnay. The 2021 vintage shows fragrant red fruit, freshness and finely grained tannins, with an elegant but structured profile.

Vineyard

The domaine’s Santenots vines are around 20 years old and are situated from the bottom to the middle of the slope on red soils. The parcel is relatively early ripening, and yields have been reduced in recent years through cordon training.

Winemaking

The 2021 Santenots was made with almost all of the fruit destemmed. The resulting wine emphasises cool, incisive fruit, fine-grained tannins and a long, structured finish.

Producer

Domaine Ballot-Millot et Fils is based in Meursault in Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune and is currently run by Charles Ballot, who took over the estate in 2000. The domaine farms more than 10 hectares, with Pinot Noir holdings in Volnay, Pommard and Beaune alongside its better-known Chardonnay vineyards in Meursault and Chassagne-Montrachet.
