“A very savoury wine yet the fruit is distinct. Sometimes, you want to sit with a wine and allow it to unfurl in the glass to best explore its nuances, to allow it to reveal them. Marked Tree Red is such a drink with the immediate fragrant, spicy, whole-bunch character and meaty reduction kick-starting its complex profile. So much here: layers of flavour from red fruits, warm earth and smoky, cured meats to pepper and wood char. A very savoury wine yet the fruit is distinct. Medium-bodied with fine tannins and excellent length. So compelling, so delicious.”

“Deep purple-red colour, with a smoky/char, barbecued meats and peppery/spice aromas, smelling like a cool-grown shiraz with some whole-bunch in the mix. Lovely silky mouth-feel and fleshy richness, the finish soft but quite long. It's remarkably accessible right now. Delectable shiraz.”

About This Wine

Collector Wines Marked Tree Red Shiraz is made from hand-worked parcels of shiraz sourced from vineyards in and around Murrumbateman in the Canberra District. The 2021 season provided stress-free ripening conditions, producing fruit with spice, flesh, density and backbone.

The grapes were hand-harvested and fermented with whole bunches in open fermenters, followed by malolactic fermentation and ageing in a mix of new and seasoned Allier and Troncais oak. Blending and bottling took place in March 2022.

Producer Notes

A lively crimson colour with a fragrant bouquet of dark cherry, blackberry, pepper and aniseed. The palate shows savoury, textured depth with elegant structure, fine tannins and a sturdy spine for graceful ageing.

About the Winery

Collector Wines produces small quantities of table wine, focusing on balance, character and depth of flavour. Grapes are grown on lean pink granite and reddish shale loams of the Canberra District and nearby regions.
