The 2021 Ceretto Barolo DOCG is a benchmark expression of Piedmont's most celebrated appellation, crafted by one of Italy's most respected and innovative producers. Produced by Ceretto Azienda Vitivinicole, this Barolo captures the elegance, precision, and terroir-driven philosophy that have established the estate among the finest names in the Langhe.
Founded in the 1930s and now managed by the third generation of the Ceretto family, the winery has played a pioneering role in elevating Barolo and Barbaresco onto the international stage. Committed to sustainable and certified organic viticulture, Ceretto focuses on expressing the individuality of each vineyard while preserving the purity of Nebbiolo through meticulous, low-intervention winemaking.
The 2021 Barolo is a blend of fruit sourced from several prestigious vineyards across the Barolo DOCG, including sites in La Morra, Serralunga d'Alba, Castiglione Falletto and Barolo. This multi-vineyard approach creates a wine that beautifully balances perfume, structure, freshness and complexity, offering a classic introduction to the Ceretto style.
The outstanding 2021 vintage is widely regarded as one of the finest of the decade in Piedmont. A long growing season with warm days and cool nights allowed Nebbiolo to achieve exceptional phenolic ripeness while preserving vibrant acidity and remarkable aromatic precision.
Following hand harvesting, the grapes underwent gentle fermentation before extended maturation in large Slavonian oak casks, allowing the wine to develop complexity while maintaining the purity of fruit and the character of each vineyard.
The bouquet is intensely aromatic, revealing layers of wild rose, violet, red cherry, raspberry, blood orange and crushed strawberry, complemented by notes of liquorice, anise, dried herbs, tar, forest floor and subtle spice. As the wine evolves in the glass, hints of truffle and tobacco add further depth and sophistication.
The palate is medium- to full-bodied, elegant and beautifully structured. Vibrant red fruits are supported by fine yet firm Nebbiolo tannins, lively natural acidity and exceptional mineral tension. Silky in texture yet powerful beneath the surface, the wine finishes long and persistent with lingering notes of red cherry, floral perfume and savoury spice.
Approachable with extended decanting, the 2021 Ceretto Barolo DOCG possesses the balance and pedigree to evolve gracefully for 20–30 years.
