SILVER — Royal Adelaide Wine Show · 2024

96/100 — Winepilot · 2021 Vintage
Tasted: May 2024
“What a charmer! A warm, inviting Grampians-style introduction leads this Aussie classic from a great year. It’s a formidable combination. Striking aromas rich in Aussie bush scents, bay leaf, liquorice, sage and blackberry. The regional terroir stands tall here in a medium-bodied, concentrated, deep Shiraz. Black fruits – bramble, blackberry, black plum – and cassis aplenty with briar. Warmly infused in more sage, liquorice and lively baking spices. Supported in fine, integrated tannins. Projects vitality, verve and complexity. Good to go now but wait, if you can. The best is yet to come.”

95/100 — Robert Parker The Wine Advocate · 2021 Vintage

About This Wine

Bin No. 0 is made to be an age worthy style and has been the undisputed icon of Great Western Shiraz for many decades.

Made from the three Shiraz blocks surrounding the Concongella winery; Bart’s Block from 1966, Sparky’s Block from 1970 and a selection from the White Gravels Hill block planted in the early 1990’s.

Best’s Bin No. 0 has always been produced from the oldest vines, with fruit selected from the lower-yielding blocks of the historic Concongella Vineyard at Great Western. The fruit is hand selected, sorted and fermented in small batches followed by intense barrel selection, and stored underground for 18 months.

The evolution of Bin No. 0 begins many years ago – there are old bottles in Best's cellar door with Hock 0 labels made by Joseph Best from the late 1800s. When references to French terms were removed from labels in the 1980s, Bin No. 0 began its life as Claret No. 0. The Bin No. 0 Shiraz has lived with this moniker for years and is one of the longest consecutively labelled varietals in the country.

Producer Notes

A delicious coupling of red and black primary fruits. Tones of red cherry, cranberry, blackberry, bramble. Complex creamy mid-palate of clove, cinnamon, and dried herb. Rich, chocolate tannins coat the mouth, and are well balanced with medium acidity.
