Overview
Clos Saint-Landry is a rare white Beaune Premier Cru and a monopole of Bouchard Pere & Fils. Chardonnay has been associated with this remarkable site for centuries, making it an unusual white-wine enclave within predominantly Pinot Noir territory. The 2020 combines ripe fruit, floral lift and subtle oak with richness, freshness and mineral tension.
Vineyard
Clos Saint-Landry is a 1.98-hectare monopole owned entirely by Bouchard Pere & Fils. The southeast-facing vineyard is planted to Chardonnay on limestone and clay soils with marl. Historical references to Chardonnay at this site extend back centuries, and Bouchard has maintained the monopole since acquiring the property in 1791.
Winemaking
The grapes are harvested manually in small 13 kg cases and carefully sorted by hand. Pressing takes place in two stages, beginning with the evacuation of the first juice followed by two-hour pressing cycles. The wine is matured for 9 to 10 months in French oak, with up to 15% new oak depending on the vintage, followed by 3 to 4 months in stainless steel vats.
Producer Tasting Notes
Suave aromas of fruit and flowers harmoniously blended with just the right touch of oak. This is a rich wine with expressive aromas and extraordinary smoothness. Good ageing potential.
