Overview
The Biondi-Santi flagship wine, Brunello di Montalcino embodies the spirit of Tenuta Greppo and the signature style of its winemakers, forged over more than 150 years of history. The 2020 is produced exclusively from selected Sangiovese grown in the estate's proprietary vineyards, delivering a classically proportioned Brunello defined by finesse, freshness and structure.
Vintage
The 2020 season began with a mild, dry winter followed by a cool spring with pronounced day-night temperature variations. June rainfall provided valuable water reserves before warm, dry conditions arrived in July and August. Strong diurnal variation helped maintain vine balance and aromatic development, while refreshing rain at the end of August preceded harvest, which began on 9 September.
Vineyard
The 2020 Brunello was produced exclusively from an accurate selection of Sangiovese from selected parcels within Biondi-Santi's proprietary vineyards.
Winemaking
The wine was vinified in oak casks, concrete and stainless steel using only indigenous yeasts from Biondi-Santi's proprietary vineyards. It was subsequently aged for 24 months in Slavonian oak casks.
Producer Tasting Notes
Biondi-Santi: âThis exquisitely classic Brunello di Montalcino immediately impresses with its superb finesse. Its clean-edged, ethereal nose offers fresh-picked cherry, redcurrant and pomegranate interwoven with rose petals and violets, while also hinting at wild herbs, orange zest, and Asian spices. Crisp acidity animates a classically proportioned palate, while magisterially sculpted tannins lend structure and energy.â

âBright ruby with a fine garnet sheen. Notes of crunchy cherries on the nose, with some pickled anchovies and blood orange, cedar wood in the background. Lots of fine fruit on the palate, opens with grippy tannins, juicy, velvety on the finish, open and accessible.â

Producer
Biondi-Santi is one of the historic names of Tuscany and is closely associated with the origins of Brunello di Montalcino. The family's connection with Brunello dates to the 19th century, and Ferruccio Biondi Santi produced the first wine officially labelled âBrunello di Montalcinoâ in 1888.
The historic Tenuta Greppo estate lies at 564 metres above sea level near Montalcino. Biondi-Santi's vineyards comprise 32 hectares of Sangiovese across five plots. The estate has played an important role in the development of Brunello, including the selection of the BBS11 Sangiovese clone registered by Franco Biondi Santi in 1977.
