375ml Half Bottle.
Overview
Yarra Yering Underhill Shiraz is a single-vineyard, cool-climate Shiraz from an unirrigated block planted in 1973. The 2019 vintage combines whole berries and whole bunches with foudre fermentation and French oak maturation, producing a focused and cellar-worthy expression of this historic Yarra Valley site.
Vineyard
The fruit comes exclusively from Underhill, a 3.2-hectare Shiraz block at the western extremity of Yarra Yering. Planted in 1973, the vineyardâs heavier clay-based soils and unirrigated vines contribute concentration, structure and distinctive site character.
Winemaking
The wine was fermented using 80% whole berries and 20% whole bunches in a 3500L new oak foudre. Half of the wine remained in the same foudre for 12 months, while the remainder was matured in used French oak puncheons.

âFruit from a single block of shiraz planted in 1973, 80/20% whole berries/bunches fermented in a 3500L new oak foudre. Half was then matured for a year in the same foudre, the remainder into used French oak puncheons. There's so much restraint and purity of fruit across the YY range this vintage, Underhill is no different. Perfumed, savoury, delicate yet complex, pure and long. Lacy tannins and fine acidity work across a lithe palate. Drink by 2033.â

âFresh and lively, this offers aromas of red and dark berries, as well as plums. Some spicy elements are threaded in nicely, too. Supple and smoothly rounded, yet very linear, this has terrific focus on the palate. Drink or hold.â
