Established in 1963 by Reg and Jessie Egan, Wantirna Estate is one of the Yarra Valley’s true pioneers — a small, family-run vineyard producing wines of classical elegance and remarkable longevity. Now guided by winemaker Maryann Egan, the estate continues its tradition of hand-crafted, estate-grown wines that reflect both site and season with unwavering authenticity.
Vineyard
The ‘Lily’ Pinot Noir comes from some of the oldest Pinot plantings in the Yarra Valley, rooted in gravelly clay-loam soils on gentle slopes near the Yarra River. Low yields, dry-grown vines, and meticulous vineyard care produce fruit of exceptional depth and finesse.
Winemaking
Small-batch fermented with a portion of whole bunches, the wine is matured for around 10 months in French oak (25–30% new). Bottled unfined and unfiltered, Lily represents a purist’s expression of Yarra Valley Pinot Noir — elegant, perfumed, and quietly powerful.
Vintage
2019 was a warm but balanced vintage, yielding small berries of concentrated flavour and fine natural acidity. The resulting wines are beautifully structured, poised between generosity and restraint.
Tasting Notes
The 2019 ‘Lily’ Pinot Noir opens with lifted aromas of red cherry, raspberry, and rose petal, layered with savoury spice and forest floor complexity. The palate is silky and detailed, with fine tannins and gentle oak framing a long, graceful finish. A classic Yarra Valley Pinot — refined, expressive, and built to age.
