The Macallan Concept Number 2 is the second release in the acclaimed Concept Series, created exclusively for Global Travel Retail. Inspired by the creative parallels between whisky making and music production, it was developed by The Macallan Whisky Maker Steven Bremner, who is also an accomplished house music DJ.
About This Whisky
The 2019 Macallan Concept Number 2 celebrates the artistry shared by whisky making and music. Just as a composer layers instruments to create harmony, Steven Bremner carefully selected multiple cask types to build layers of flavour, texture and aroma, resulting in one of The Macallan's most distinctive limited editions.
The whisky is matured in a combination of sherry-seasoned American oak casks, Miguel Martin sherry casks, and ex-bourbon casks. Each cask contributes a different "note" to the final composition—sherry-seasoned American oak provides sweetness and vanilla, Miguel Martin casks deliver rich spice, while bourbon casks add floral citrus and creamy vanilla. The result is a harmonious and beautifully balanced single malt.
The nose is expressive and inviting, revealing aromas of toffee apple, vanilla, blackberry, warming oak spice and nutmeg, complemented by hints of rose water and pistachio. On the palate, layers of sweet toffee, dried apple, roasted almond and cinnamon unfold alongside gentle wood spice and creamy vanilla. The finish is smooth and medium-sweet, lingering with delicate spice, soft oak and rich toffee notes.
Presented in its original collector's gift box, Concept Number 2 has become one of the most sought-after modern Macallan limited editions. Its striking design, compelling story and limited availability make it highly desirable for collectors, while its approachable, richly layered flavour profile makes it equally rewarding to enjoy.
