Overview

The 2019 Roagna Pajè Barbaresco is a profound and highly expressive Nebbiolo from one of Barbaresco’s most historic and revered vineyards. Located in the heart of Barbaresco commune, Pajè is renowned for producing wines of great aromatic lift, finesse, and mineral tension. The 2019 vintage captures this identity with clarity and depth, offering a Barbaresco of elegance, structure, and long-term promise.

Vineyard and Winemaking

The Pajè vineyard is characterised by calcareous marl soils and favourable exposure, yielding Nebbiolo of precision and perfume. Roagna farms the site organically, working with mature vines and extremely low yields. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts in large wooden vats, followed by extended maceration to gently extract tannin and complexity. The wine is then aged for approximately four to five years in large neutral Slavonian oak botti, without fining or filtration, allowing the vineyard’s character to be expressed with transparency and integrity.

Tasting Notes

Aromas of red cherry, wild strawberry, dried rose, and blood orange unfold alongside notes of spice, crushed stone, and subtle earth. The palate is finely etched and harmonious, showing pure red fruit, vibrant acidity, and firm yet elegant tannins. The finish is long, mineral, and savoury, marked by poise, freshness, and classical restraint.

Cellaring and Pairing

Best cellared until 2028–2035, with the capacity to evolve gracefully for 25 years or more. Decant generously when young. Ideal with veal, roast poultry, mushroom dishes, truffles, or aged hard cheeses that complement its finesse and mineral structure.
