92/100 — James Suckling · 2019 Vintage · Tasted: Mar 2025
“Polished, textural and focused, with dried berry, bark and dried spice aromas, following through to a medium body with melty tannins. Round and fruit-driven, with a mellow finish. Drink now. Screw cap.”

About This Wine

Selected from the most exceptional, most mature sites, this Sangiovese is refined with brilliant sculptural definition.

The grapes were hand selected from a small section within leading blocks of Sangiovese, then handpicked, crushed and de-stemmed to an oak barrel fermenter.

A yeast strain selected from Brunello di Montalcino was used to ferment the wine, helping give the wine more body and mouth feel.

The 2019 vintage was relatively dry, but snow on the Alps helped fill dams and rivers in preparation for the growing season. A storm in December produced 100mm of rain, followed by key heat across January, and harvest ran smoothly.

Producer Notes

The wine has a deep brick red colour with a garnet hue. Aromas of dark red fruit are complimented by spices, star anise, leather, sweet fruit and oak complexity. As the wine opens up there are notes of five spice, vanilla, blackberry, coffee and orange myrtle. The palate is rich and powerful with great length and rich, ripe fruit flavours of plums, cherries and prunes with lovely chalky tannins and a vibrant juicy acidity. Enjoy this with BBQ rib eye on the bone and a rich red wine jus.
