Overview
Pio Cesare Ornato Barolo DOCG is the first single-vineyard Barolo produced by the Pio family, first released in 1985. It comes from Cascina Ornato in Serralunga d'Alba, one of the most historic and prestigious areas of Barolo, known for Nebbiolo with structure, tannin, freshness and longevity.
The 2019 vintage is powerful, concentrated and deeply age-worthy, combining Serralunga drive with the refinement of Pio Cesare's long-established house style. Produced in small quantities, Ornato is one of the estate's most important Barolo releases.
Vineyard
The wine is made from a small selection of Nebbiolo from Pio Cesare's family-owned Cascina Ornato vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba. This site is recognised for producing Barolo with depth, firm tannins, freshness and long cellar potential.
Winemaking
Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks at high temperatures, with 30 days of maceration. The wine is aged in large oak botti for about 30 months, with a small portion matured in French oak barriques for the first 12 months.
