Overview
Pio Cesare Mosconi Barolo DOCG is a very small-production Barolo from the historic Mosconi area of Monforte d'Alba. The Pio family acquired vineyards in this prized appellation in 2014, drawn by its distinctive terroir and old Nebbiolo vines.
First released with the 2015 vintage, Mosconi arrived 30 years after the first release of Ornato. The wine expresses the power of Monforte's calcareous and marly soils, balanced by soft, harmonious tannins, floral lift and high-elevation elegance. The 2019 vintage is structured, complex and built for long ageing.
Vineyard
The fruit comes from the historic Mosconi appellation in Monforte d'Alba, where old Nebbiolo vines grow on calcareous and marly soils. The site's elevation contributes aromatic detail and refinement, while the terroir gives power, depth and structure.
Winemaking
Fermentation and long maceration on skins take place in stainless steel tanks. The wine is aged in large French and Eastern European oak barrels for nearly 24 months, with a small portion in French oak barriques, followed by long bottle ageing before release.
