Overview

Pio Cesare Barolo DOCG is a classic Langhe Barolo made from Nebbiolo sourced across multiple family-owned vineyard sites. Rather than focusing on a single cru, it follows the traditional Barolo family approach of blending different villages and terroirs to create a complete, harmonious and age-worthy expression of the appellation.

The 2019 vintage shows excellent structure, elegance and balance, with polished fruit, refined tannins and long ageing potential. Pio Cesare is clear that this is not a basic or regular Barolo; it is the historic family style, built to represent Barolo as a whole.

Vineyards

The fruit comes from Pio Cesare family-owned vineyards in Serralunga d'Alba, including Ornato, La Serra and Briccolina; Grinzane Cavour, including Gustava and Garretti; La Morra, including Roncaglie; Novello, including Ravera; and Monforte d'Alba, including Mosconi.

Winemaking

Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, with skin contact and maceration for around 25 to 30 days. The wine is aged in large French oak botti for about 30 months, with a small portion matured in barriques.

A gorgeous 2019 Barolo with intense Asian spices, potpourri, kumquat zest and damp earth. Plush and seamless, with firm tannins, wild strawberry, guava and tangerine peel.

Bright ruby with garnet tones, delicate wild berries, blood orange, black tea and balsamic notes. Polished and layered, with deep, salty length.

Lifted red fruit, savoury spice, flowers and earth. Sour cherry defines the palate, supported by gentle tannins, savoury herbs and a vibrant finish. Drink now-2035.
