The 2019 Penfolds Bin 389 Cabernet Shiraz 3L is a rare large-format release of one of Penfolds' most recognised Australian red wines. Often known as "Baby Grange", Bin 389 helped define the classic Australian Cabernet Shiraz style, combining Cabernet Sauvignon structure with Shiraz richness.

The 2019 vintage is a blend of 53% Cabernet Sauvignon and 47% Shiraz, sourced from Padthaway, McLaren Vale, Coonawarra, Wrattonbully and Barossa Valley. Presented in 3L format, this bottle offers strong collector appeal, impressive presentation and slower ageing potential.

Vintage & Winemaking

The 2019 South Australian growing season produced smaller yields and concentrated fruit. Warm and dry conditions, combined with careful vineyard management, resulted in Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz with strong colour, firm tannin profiles and intense flavour.

The wine was matured for 12 months in American oak hogsheads, 25% new, building Penfolds' signature balance of fruit power, oak polish and long-term structure.

Tasting Notes

Deep dark ruby with an opaque core. Aromas of ripe blackcurrants, blackberries, aniseed, peppermint and sweet wood tones lead into a taut, elegant palate of ripe cherry, spice, white pepper, mineral-saline freshness and finely integrated tannins.

Food Pairing

Pair with jasmine tea smoked ribs, kafta tagine, lamb with peas and mint, beef, venison or Mimolette.
