Overview

Babich Family Estates Organic Pinot Noir is a Wairau Valley, Marlborough red combining ripe dark fruit with savoury complexity and a smooth, dense palate. Babich has been producing organically grown grapes from its estate-owned vineyards for more than 15 years, with the Family Estates range focused on expressive, vineyard-driven wines.

Vineyard & Viticulture

The wine is made from Pinot Noir grown in the Wairau Valley, Marlborough, using a range of clonal selections. Fruit was machine harvested between 7 and 11 March 2019 and destemmed in the vineyard.

Winemaking

The fruit underwent seven days of cold soaking before fermentation in open-top vats. Twenty-two percent was wild fermented, with the balance inoculated, and the wine spent a total of four weeks on skins. Malolactic fermentation took place in barrel, followed by 10 months of barrel maturation.

Producer Tasting Notes

Black cherry and olive. Violet notes and a touch of cedar and liquorice.

Smooth and dense entry displaying dark fruits, morello cherry and plum, and nutmeg that persists through onto the lingering finish. Savoury dried herb and leather elements are also present.
